Marian Hutchins

Marian has been dedicated to the classical art of dressage for more than twenty five years. She began riding as a young teenager, when her father bought her her first horse. Shortly after the start of her riding career Marian found her primary interest was in the training of classical dressage and has since immersed herself in it, both theoretically and physically. She began her long list of achievements in her early twenties when she obtained her British Horse Society Assistant Instructor certification, as well as, her Pacific Horse Center Instructor certification. Shortly after, Marian pursued her academic career, finishing her B.S. degree at Michigan State University with honors. During her earlier years of operating Haven Valley Farm Marian also served as a United States Pony Club District Commissioner. For more than twenty years now Marian has made it a goal to continually expand her knowledge and abilities by training with world class dressage instructors, including, Bodo Hagan (Willi Shultheis protégé), Hans Biss (German Master Trainer and FEI Judge), Ralf Isselhorst (Reiner Klimke's assistant trainer) and most recently Jochen Hippenstiel (Team coach for country of Luxembourg.)

In addition to her quest for continuing her own training and education, she has passed the rigorous United States Dressage Federation Instructor Certification program. She is one of only two in the state of Michigan who have achieved this, and only a total of ten instructors (including Marian) have received this certification in the USDF Region 2 (IL, IN, KY, MI, WV, OH, WI). Marian also serves as the dressage judge at different dressage shows and three-day events around the state each year.

Throughout her riding career Marian has broke dozens of horses, varying greatly in breed and prospective discipline. She is unique in that she has trained all of her horses herself from the most basic levels of training thru Prix St. George in dressage and prelim level in eventing. She especially enjoys working with talented young horses.
